What makes mochis so special?

Mochis are traditional Japanese rice cakes made from steamed and then vigorously pounded glutinous rice. This special process creates the soft and elastic texture that you won’t find in any other snack and that makes them so popular.

The rice cakes as we mostly know them are called Daifuku. Here, the delicate dough shell encloses a sweet core, such as classic red bean paste, chocolate, mango, or matcha, as well as modern creamy surprises.

Which mochi will it be today?

In our shop, every sweet tooth will find the perfect mochis:

  • Traditional classics: Enjoy the original with sweet red bean paste (anko) or peanut.
  • Modern trends: Want something modern? Try our mochis with matcha filling or the highly popular chocolate mochis.
  • Fruity kick: For the ultimate fresh taste, choose varieties like strawberry-filled mochi, mango-filled mochi, or exotic classics such as yuzu and coconut.
  • The mochi mix: Can’t decide? Our mochi mix packs are perfect for exploring the full world of flavors.

Mochis – the lighter kind of snack

Creamy, soft, delicious, and melt-in-your-mouth – these small Japanese rice cakes are a true delight. Compared to fatty baked goods, mochis stand out with a significantly lower fat content and are naturally gluten-free. Many of our varieties are also available in vegan versions.

Whether as a small treat in between, a highlight for your mochi dessert, or a special gift – these traditional delicacies are always a great choice. Since they are concentrated energy sources containing sugar and carbohydrates, it’s best to enjoy them as a mindful treat. Simply enjoy – with these traditional sweets, pure indulgence always comes first for us.

FAQ – Mochi

Where do mochis come from?
The origins of these small rice cakes go back over 2,000 years. Originally brought from China to Japan, they developed over the centuries into a central part of Japanese culture. Traditionally, mochis were a symbol of happiness and prosperity, especially served during special occasions such as New Year celebrations or weddings.

How should I store my mochis?
Since mochis are made from glutinous rice, they can quickly become hard when exposed to air. It’s best to store them unopened in a cool, dry place. Once opened: keep them airtight so they stay soft.

Do you offer vegan mochis?
Many of our traditional varieties with bean paste are naturally vegan. However, for modern versions with creamy fillings (such as matcha cream or chocolate), it’s best to check the ingredient list, as they may contain dairy components.
