Why Specialised Kitchen Utensils Are Worth It
The right kitchen utensils not only save you plenty of time during preparation, but can also help you achieve better results when cooking. Prepare your ingredients efficiently, bring out their aromas and enjoy a more relaxed cooking experience.

3 Reasons Why Asian Kitchen Tools Can Transform Your Cooking
Why do specialised Asian kitchen utensils make such a difference when cooking? Here are three reasons:
1. More Aroma Through Grinding
Grinding garlic, ginger and chilli in a stone mortar crushes and
combines the ingredients while releasing their aromatic oils. This
creates an excellent base for homemade curry pastes and seasoning
mixtures.
2. Gentle Cooking & Great Texture Through
Steaming
Gentle steaming in a bamboo basket helps vegetables retain their
colour and texture while keeping dumplings deliciously tender and
juicy.
3. Effortless Cutting with Sharp Knives
With lightweight and sharp knives from Thailand and Japan, you can
cut vegetables, meat or fish cleanly and efficiently with less
effort.
The Right Asian Knife for Every Task
In Asian cuisine, the right cut can influence texture, cooking time and how ingredients come together in a dish. Different blade shapes are therefore suited to different ingredients and preparation methods:
- For vegetables: Thin Thai knives from Kiwi Brand and classic Santoku knives glide easily through both delicate and firm vegetables. They create clean cuts without unnecessarily crushing the ingredients.
- For fish: Specialised knives such as the Deba for preparing and filleting fish and the long, narrow Sashimi knife from Sekiryu allow precise, smooth cuts for dishes such as sushi and sashimi.
- For meat: Sturdy meat knives and heavier cleavers are suitable for portioning meat and preparing beef, pork or poultry. Always choose a knife designed for the specific cutting task.
- For decorative presentation: Serrated peeling knives and small fruit knives are ideal for adding visual details. Use them for crinkle-cut vegetables, fine strips or decorative garnishes.
Enjoy Your Kitchen Utensils for Longer – Our Care Tips
With a few simple care steps, you can help keep kitchen tools made from different materials in good condition for longer:
Bamboo & wood: Rinse with lukewarm water after use, dry briefly and then allow to air-dry completely. Never place bamboo or wooden utensils in the dishwasher or leave them soaking in water.
Blades: Always clean knives by hand immediately after use. Regular sharpening with a wet sharpening stone or whetstone helps maintain the cutting edge.
Stone mortars: Rinse or wipe the mortar clean after grinding. For stronger spice residues, grinding a little coarse salt or dry rice in the mortar can help remove remaining aromas and oils.

FAQ – Asian Kitchen Accessories
Do you also offer high-quality Asian
tableware?
Yes. In addition to kitchen utensils, we also offer matching
tableware
for serving and presenting your Asian dishes in style.
What is the best way to clean and care for a stone
mortar after use?
After preparing pastes and
sauces or grinding spices, clean the mortar thoroughly with
lukewarm water and a washing-up brush. Depending on the material
and the manufacturer's care instructions, avoid aggressive cleaning
agents. To help remove stubborn aromas or oils, grind a handful of
dry rice or coarse
salt in the mortar and rinse it thoroughly afterwards.
Does Asia Foodstore also offer multipacks of kitchen
utensils?
Yes, many of our popular knives are also available in convenient
packs of 3 or 12. These multipacks are particularly useful if you
need several knives for your household, want to keep spare blades
on hand or require kitchen utensils for food service or
catering.
