Filter Coffee – How Coffee Is Traditionally Enjoyed in Vietnam
Vietnamese coffee culture is unique and wonderfully uncomplicated. Instead of using large coffee machines, coffee is traditionally prepared with a Phin filter – a small, practical metal filter placed directly on top of a cup or glass.
Vietnamese iced coffee (Cà Phê Sữa Đá) is particularly popular. Freshly brewed strong coffee is combined with sweetened condensed milk and plenty of ice. The result is a delicious balance of intense coffee flavour and creamy sweetness.
You'll also find suitable accessories such as traditional Phin filters in our shop.

FAQ – Vietnamese Coffee Beans
What is the difference between Arabica and Robusta beans
from Vietnam?
Vietnam is one of the world's largest producers of Robusta coffee.
Robusta beans generally contain more caffeine and have a stronger,
more earthy and often slightly chocolatey flavour. Arabica beans
tend to offer a milder, more aromatic profile with greater acidity
and fruity notes. Many Vietnamese coffee blends combine different
beans to create a balanced flavour profile.
Does Asia Foodstore also sell ground
coffee?
Yes. In addition to whole coffee beans, we also offer ground
Vietnamese coffee, including products from the popular Trung
Nguyen Creative range. Depending on the product, the grind can be
particularly suitable for traditional preparation with a Phin
filter.
Are Vietnamese coffee beans suitable for fully automatic
coffee machines?
Whole Vietnamese coffee beans can generally be used in fully
automatic coffee machines, provided the individual product is
suitable for the machine. Strong Robusta-based blends are
particularly popular for intense espresso and milk-based coffee
drinks such as cappuccino or latte macchiato. Always follow the
instructions for your coffee machine and the individual coffee
product.
How do I prepare coffee with a Phin filter?
Add around 2–3 teaspoons of coarsely ground coffee to the filter
and gently place the filter press on top. Pour in a small amount of
hot water first and allow the coffee to bloom for a few seconds.
Then add the remaining hot water, place the lid on the Phin and let
the coffee slowly drip into your cup or glass.
